What Is a Voucher and How Does it Work?

When you work with Self Fund Health (SFH) to get a referral to a Preferred Provider, SFH will generate a voucher for the patient.

The voucher serves as a formal notice to the provider that:

• The patient is being referred through the SFH program.
• The provider should not collect any copay or payment from the member at the time of service.
• The claim will be handled directly by the plan according to the preferred pricing arrangement.

Once the voucher is created, SFH faxes it directly to the preferred provider ahead of the appointment. This ensures there’s no confusion about billing and guarantees that the member receives $0 cost care for eligible services.
